David Strathairn

 

Né le 26 juillet 1949 à San Francisco, David Strathairn est

diplômé du Williams College (où il fit la connaissance de John

Sayles) et du Ringling Brothers Clown College. Il joue d'abord

au théâtre avant de se tourner vers le cinéma grâce à son vieux

pote John Sayles, qui le fait débuter dans Return of the

Secaucus Seven. Acteur fétiche du réalisateur depuis lors, la

paire a travaillé de concert sur Brother, Matewan, Eight men

out, City of hope ou encore Poisson d'amour. Solide acteur

de composition, Strathairn a côtoyé les plus grands : Meryl

Streep dans La rivière sauvage, Robert Redford et Sydney

Poitier dans Les experts, Nick Nolte et John Goodman dans

Mother Night (inédit en France), Holly Hunter dans Week-

end en famille, Kathy Bates dans Dolores Claiborne, Tom

Cruise dans La firme... Il tenait il y a peu le rôle principal du

Défi, réalisé par le Français Bob Swaim, celui d'un père dont le

fils cherche à lui prouver qu'il existe... Il était aussi le père dans

Simon Birch, qui a failli sortir en mai 1999 et qui devrait sortir

directement en vidéo. Acteur de télévision (beaucoup de

téléfilms à son actif, tels que "In the Gloaming", réalisé par

Christopher Reeve, ou "Beyond the Call"), David Strathairn,

qui fait son chemin entre cinéma indépendant et gros œuvre de

studio, se retrouvera bientôt à l'affiche de Songe d'une nuit

d'été, en compagnie de Michelle Pfeiffer, Stanley Tucci,

Christian Bale et Sophie Marceau.
